Safety concerns
Fatal road accidents that devastate entire families, electrocutions of construction workers and tragic incidents involving devotees pulling temple cars are urgent issues that demand immediate attention. Fire accidents and stampedes during mass gatherings and drowning incidents have also become increasingly common. Concerned departments must take decisive and concrete action to prevent them. When the breadwinner of the family falls victim to such calamities, it sets off a destructive chain reaction that thrusts the entire family into hardship.
Stricter enforcement of existing traffic regulations is non-negotiable and merely having rules in place is not enough. The revocation of driving licenses for traffic violences must be implemented rigorously. Additionally, parents licenses should be revoked if their underage children are found operating vehicles. Fire safety audits must be mandated for large business establishments and should be conducted by the district fire service department without exception. Accidents do not occur by chance, they are the result of negligence. Immediate and effective action is required to prevent them.

Stringent measures needed
Recent sambar deer poaching incidents near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district and near Therkumalai Reserve Forest in Kanniyakumari district highlight weak wildlife protection. The forest department should issue non-bailable warrants against the accused and increase scrutiny to combat illegal harvesting of venison and other deer parts.

Need for more coaches
The express train no 16731/16732 connects Tiruchendur and Palakkad junction. The train starts from Tiruchendur via Thirupparankundram, Madurai and Palani. During holidays, passengers travelling from intermediate stations are unable to board the train, due to heavy rush. The train is currently operated with only 11 coaches. To mitigate the number of passengers, the railway authorities should consider operating with at least 18 coaches, as all intermediate stations between Tirunelveli and Tiruchendur have been augmented to accommodate 24 coaches.

Tourism potential
Recently, there are reports of developing the Thengaipattinam beach by the government. The place, which is about 35 km from Nagercoil, derives its name from coconut grove along the estuary, where the Tamirabharani merges with the Arabian sea. Apart from improving the basic facilities on the beach, the district administration authorities are requested to construct check dams across the Tamirabharani river to impound the rainwater flowing into the sea. The AVM canal, which passes through this town can also be merged with the Thamirabarani river.
Ferry service, cruise tour, pedal boating, aesthetically laid walkway and comfortable seating arrangements can make this an ideal picnic spot.

Maintenance of Udayarpatti lake
The Udayarapatti lake in Tirunelveli was recently desilted by an NGO based in Chennai. However, unfortunately, due to a lack of follow-up work, the lake is again overrun with water hyacinth, further eliminating the purpose of desilting the lake. It is requested that the concerned authorities look into the issue to remove these invasive water plants and restore the lake from pollution as a follow-up work of the NGO.
