A traffic signal has been installed near the new terminal entry junction of the Tiruchi international airport along the Tiruchi – Pudukottai national highway as a road safety measure to curb accidents. The Tiruchi Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko had raised this demand at the DISHA and Road Safety meetings earlier in view of the steady rise in vehicular movements to and from the new terminal.
He had submitted separate representations to the Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi on a couple of occasions requesting for the installation of a traffic signal at the new terminal entry junction of the Tiruchi airport on the Tiruchi – Pudukottai national highway as a road safety measure to minimise the rise of accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow in coordination with the highways and Airport Authority of India authorities.
In a statement on Monday, Mr. Durai Vaiko said based on his representations, the traffic signal has been installed. This move would help in easing congestion and prevent accidents, he said and thanked the Tiruchi City Police and the other authorities concerned for taking this step.
Meanwhile, in another statement Mr. Durai Vaiko said acting on his repeated requests the railway administration had provided a halt to the Tiruchi – Chennai Egmore – Tiruchi Cholan express trains at Tiruverumbur railway station with effect from January 26.
Mr. Durai Vaiko along with his party cadre and a section of the general public accorded to a rousing reception by showering petals on the express train upon its arrival at Tiruverumbur station from Tiruchi on Monday.
