Transport Minister urges state to lead national road safety month initiative

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday emphasised that the State should lead the country in observing the National Road Safety Month beginning on January 1.

Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar was chairing a review meeting with Transport Department officials where he called for the involvement of Ministers, legislators, District Collectors, police officers and newly elected sarpanches in the initiative.

He pointed out that about 20 people die every day in road accidents. He said the aim was to reduce fatalities through sustained awareness. He directed officials to visit schools and colleges, proposed Children’s Traffic Awareness Parks in every district, and ordered daily activity reports from field officers.
