Fifty tribal students from Classes IX to XII in the Hasanur Hills will undertake an educational exposure visit to Chennai from September 29 to October 1.
Organised by the Sathyamangalam-based NGO, Rights Education and Development Centre (READ), the visit will include 25 girls and 25 boys from tribal communities in the Hasanur area. READ Director R. Karuppasamy said the students would be accompanied by four staff members. For many of the students, the visit would be their first visit to Chennai and major higher educational institutions, he said.
The students will visit the Madras School of Social Work (MSSW), where they will participate in sessions on psychosocial well-being, confidence-building and personal development, and interact with professors. A cultural and arts learning programme facilitated by the Neelam Foundation is also planned. The students will also visit Marina Beach.
On October 1, the students will visit IIT Madras and gain exposure to science, experiments and higher education. They will later visit the Anna Centenary Library.
Mr. Karuppasamy said the programme was intended not merely as a sightseeing trip but as a structured learning and confidence-building experience. It seeks to broaden the students’ awareness of higher education and career opportunities and encourage them to pursue higher education. The NGO has also planned follow-up interactions with the students to assess the impact of the exposure visit and support their educational aspirations.
