The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation plans to rename Hotel Tamil Nadu Unit-II, which was taken over from SRM group, in Tiruchi so as to attract more customers.
The prime property, situated on Race Course Road, was recently brought under the administrative control of the TTDC, which runs 54 hotels in different parts of the State, including Mahabalipuram, Chennai, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Tiruchi, Madurai, and Rameswaram.
The hotel has 100 rooms, 17 villas, a presidential suite, three restaurants, a swimming pool, three banquet halls, a board room and a bar. The tariff for the rooms varies from ₹6,000 to ₹17,000. A day after the take over, the TTDC changed the name of the hotel, which was promoted in the name of SRM hotel for 30 years, and christened as Hotel Tamil Nadu Unit-II. It put up boards and fixed TTDC stickers on the glass doors. It replaced the systems with HMIS software, which is widely used in the hotels run by TTDC It subsequently listed out all furniture, air conditioners, elevators, restaurants, electrical and electronic equipment.
While accommodating most of the staff including front desk, chefs and others, the TTDC began running the show without any break. It did not disturb the future bookings as well.
However, taking into account various aspects, the TTDC has taken a decision to change the name of the hotel and brand it under a new name.
A senior official of the TTDC group of hotels told The Hindu that a few names were being considered. The idea was to distinguish the hotel from the rest of the TTDC hotels. The hotel on Race Course road in Tiruchi had better facilities and infrastructure than many other hotels. Hence, it had been decided to promote it under a different name.
