Thoothukudi district, long been regarded as the stronghold of Dravidian parties, particularly DMK, has witnessed a significant shake-up with the entry of Tamilga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Of the six constituencies of the district TVK has bagged three segments and DMK has registered victory in three seats.
Thoothukudi constituency, which had elected P. Geetha Jeevan thrice for the assembly, (in 2006, 2016 and 2021,) has now elected TVK candidate A. Srinath to represent the constituency. Mr. Srinath defeated Ms. Geetha Jeevan with a sizable margin of 37,731 votes.
