The city police have secured two persons, who were booked for allegedly assaulting a man transporting beef on his motorcycle near Bajpe on Saturday. A case was also registered against the man for illegal transportation of beef.
In a statement, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said Abdul Sattar Mullarpatna was riding his motorcycle with his 11-year-old daughter riding pillion when two persons waylaid his vehicle. Mullarpatna was allegedly carrying 19 kg of beef for which there was no authorisation.
Sumit Bhandari, 21, and Rajat Naik, 30, both from Yedapadavu, came in a multi-utility vehicle and allegedly blocked the way at Malali Narlapadavu Road at around 10 a.m.. The motorcycle fell to the ground. The 11-year-old girl had burns on her leg after it came in contact with the motorcycle’s silencer. Mullarpatna managed to escape from the spot.
In the statement to the Bajpe police, the injured girl, who was admitted by locals to a hospital, alleged that Bhandari and Naik rained blows on her father, before he ran away.
The police registered the case of assault and secured Bhandari and Naik. When they were questioned separately, the two said they were going to a temple and stopped the motorcycle to ask the address of the temple. They did not specify which temple they were going. Naik also told police that he was medical representative and he was returning after delivering medicine to a clinic. The police checked at the clinic, where the latter personnel stated that none came to deliver medicine to the clinic.

On the post in the social media that one “Sangi Goonda Avinash Suvarna” was involved in the attack on Sattar, Mr. Reddy said the police are yet to confirm it. “We don’t know anything about Avinash Suvarna or his involvement as of now. After investigation if it is found he was not involved, then police will book a case against the person who shared the news on the social media,” Mr. Reddy said.
The police have found that Sattar was delivering beef regularly around that area. The police have seized the 19 kg of beef, which was packed in 35 packets. Once Sattar is caught, police will get to know from where he brought it. “It is police duty to stop those transporting beef illegally without any bills from an authorised place,” Mr. Reddy said.
