Two brothers from Virudhunagar district were found dead in a lodge in Periamet on Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Karthik Raja, 28, and his younger brother Vinoth, 21, sons of Raj, of Rosapatti in Virudhunagar district. The brothers had checked into a lodge on Kadappa Rengayya Street on Tuesday and they told the lodge staff that they had come to Chennai to appear for an examination.
According to police, lodge employee Subramani noticed that the brothers had not left the room since checking in. He also sensed foul smell from the room and informed the police. On receiving information, police broke open the door of the room and found the bodies in a decomposed state. Police sent the bodies to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for a post-mortem examination and launched an investigation.
