Two devotees killed, three injured in auto-van collision in Srikakulam

Two devotees were killed and three others were injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling in collided head-on with a van at Jalumuru junction in Srikakulam district on Wednesday evening.

The autorickshaw, carrying 10 passengers was travelling towards the Srimukhalingeswara Swamy temple in Srimukhalingam village, Narsannapeta mandal when the accident took place. The group of devotees had earlier visited the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Tekkali mandal as part of their Karthika month pilgrimage.

The deceased were identified as G. Atchiyamma and G. Padma of Laveru mandal, Srikakulam.

According to Jalumuru Sub-Inspector B. Ashok, The inured were shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Srikakulam town for treatment.”

This is the second temple related incident in Srikakulam district after the recent stampede at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Palasa-Kasibugga where nine devotees including a 13-year-old boy lost their lives and over 25 were injured.
