Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna filed a complaint with the Udupi Cyber, Economic, and Narcotic (CEN) Crime Police Station on Tuesday, December 30, seeking action against individuals who hacked his mobile number and solicited money from his contacts via WhatsApp.

Mr. Suvarna filed the complaint after receiving calls from people who received messages through WhatsApp seeking money.

In one such chat with a reporter from The Hindu on Tuesday, the fraudster started the conversation with a “Hi” message, followed by a request for urgent help. The fraudster then said, “48000 hoga na,” which was followed by the messages, “Bahut Urgent Hai” and “Mera UPI Kaam Nahi Kar Raha Hai.”

When The Hindu reporter made a voice call to the MLA, the latter’s mobile was switched off. The reporter then called the MLA’s aide to inform them about the fraudster’s actions.
