As part of the first phase of State-wide launch of Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs), a new centre was inaugurated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) near the District Court here on Friday.

Madurai Deputy Collector M. Kaleeswari, along with Director of UIDAI Regional Office, Bengaluru, Pawan Kumar Pahwa, inaugurated the new facility.

Mr. Pahwa told the press that they had planned to open close to 30 ASKs in the State in a phased manner to cater to the needs of the public.

“As part of the first phase, Madurai ASK was opened, and following this, an ASK in Chennai will be opened in the first week of January 2026,” he added.

Subsequently, eight more ASKs would come up in eight districts by March 15 and 20 more ASKs by September 30, he added.

“As the 30 ASKs in various parts of the State would cover almost all of the districts, we have upgraded the facilities available in each centre,” he noted.

While only Aadhar creation and updation were done in the old centres, the new ones would have facilities to address public grievances regarding biometrics, updates, enrolments, etc.

“The complaints raised in the centres will be immediately taken up at the regional centres, from where the technology centre would take up the matter for earlier resolution,” Mr. Pahwa added.

Also, the 30 ASKs to be opened in the State would fall under three types — A, B, and C. Madurai with eight operators would fall under type B, and the Chennai centre with 15 operators would be brought under type A, he stated.

The new centres equipped with online complaint mechanisms to make it more user-friendly would address the grievances and other works within a day, he assured.

Since 400 to 500 transactions could be completed in a day in Madurai centre alone, taking up online complaints and providing online appointments had been made more efficiently, Mr. Pahwa said.

Regarding when UIDAI would provide all the services for free, he said basic services like creation and updation of existing accounts were already provided for free.

Ms. Kaleeswari instructed the staff at the ASK to equip themselves with all the necessary details about Aadhaar.

Since they would be handling critical details, they should ensure that all the entries were made properly as per the Standard Operating Procedure issued to them, she noted.

Instead of making issues more complex, she said the staff should consult their seniors in cases of difficult situations and problems.
