The Union Budget 2026–27 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has failed to offer any new hope and has once again disappointed the farming community, alleged the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), Mysuru.
Reacting to the budget, KRRS president Badagalapura Nagendra said that although Ms. Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the ninth time, it had turned out to be a “damp squib” and was not supportive of the country’s overall development.
He claimed that the agriculture sector had been neglected in the Budget. “While ₹1.70 lakh crore was allocated for agriculture in the previous financial year, the allocation has been reduced to ₹1.62 lakh crore this year. This cut has caused grave injustice to the farming community,” Mr. Nagendra alleged.
“The expectations of sugarcane growers, in particular, have been completely dashed,” he said, adding that the Budget did not give due importance to rural development and strengthening rural infrastructure.
The KRRS also claimed that the Union government had favoured States ruled by NDA constituent parties by allocating higher funds to them, while ignoring States like Karnataka. “South India, in particular, has been overlooked in the Budget allocations,” Mr. Nagendra stated.
He further alleged that the Budget had added to the country’s debt burden. “Overall, it is a Budget that fails to offer any new hope to the people,” the KRRS president added.
‘Disappointing to farmers’
Kurubur Shantakumar, State president of the Federation of Farmers’ Organisations on February 1 said the Union Budget has failed to include any effective or development-oriented schemes for the agriculture sector. “The budget is disappointing for farmers. It does not contain any plans for the development of agriculture. The emphasis on subsidies for dairy farming in rural areas is somewhat helpful,” he said in a statement.
