The Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday (February 5) will consider a custody application filed by the Medical College police for Shimjitha Musthafa, who was earlier arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly abetting the unnatural death of Govindapuram native U. Deepak, after a video shot by her accusing him of sexual harassment during a bus journey surfaced on social media.
The police sources said the custody application would be considered by the court on February 5 and, if custody is granted, the accused would be taken to Kannur district to collect further evidence related to her bus journey to Payyannur.
A senior police officer associated with the probe said the mobile phone used by the accused to record the video was still under forensic examination to verify suspected editing of the visuals before they were circulated on social media. A preliminary examination had indicated that the video was edited, the officer said.
Deepak was found dead at his residence near Govindapuram in Kozhikode on January 18. According to police sources, the video alleging sexual harassment was recorded by the accused during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
