UP man on the run after alleged highway robbery held from Kochi

A man from Uttar Pradesh, who was reportedly absconding after an alleged highway robbery in that State, was arrested from a lodge on Chittoor Road here on Friday in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Ernakulam Central police.

The arrested is Rizakath, who allegedly played a key role in the robbery that took place on December 15 at Hapur along the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway. The gang reportedly looted ₹85 lakh from an accountant employed by a Noida-based businessman when he was transporting the cash.

CCTV footage released by the UP police showed the accused snatching the bag of cash while the accountant was riding a scooter. The UP police zeroed in on Rizakath tracing his mobile phone location. The Ernakulam Central police assisted their UP counterparts to locate the accused, police sources said.
