Uploading of 1,000 Manjolai voters shocks political parties as only 63 persons are now living there

Uploading details of over 1,000 voters from Manjolai area has shocked political parties as only 63 persons are living there after the tea estate operations came to a grinding halt a year ago.

When the Maanjolai tea estate was fully functional, the hilly region having tea estates at Manjolai, Oothu, Naalumukku and Kakachi areas had the quarters of the plantation workers and their families in these areas. After the operation of the tea estate was wound-up, most of the workers have moved to the plains and only a few families with 63 persons are now living in the erstwhile tea estates.

When the Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll was started, over 1,000 enumeration forms were submitted to the booth level officers of the booths in Maanjolai tea estate areas even as only 63 persons are still living there. The details of these 1,000-odd voters were also uploaded.

Objecting to it, the AIADMK recently submitted petition to District Collector and District Electoral Officer R. Sukumar and Returning Officer of Ambasamudram Assembly segment and Sub-Collector of Cheranmahadevi Ayush Gupta seeking action against those who stuffed so many “fake enumeration forms”.

Subsequently, Mr. Ayush Gupta has issued notice to Booth Level Officer of booth 102 Petchiammal requiring her to submit her explanation for uploading the details of over 1,000 voters while only 63 persons were living there.

“Even as no voter is living in Oothu area, 63 enumeration forms have been uploaded. While the BLOs have been asked to distribute the enumeration forms at the doorsteps of the voters, the forms had been given to those who have migrated to South Paappaankulam and Reddiyarpatti Housing Board apartments. In other words, the BLO did not visit the houses directly, it seems. Hence, the BLO should submit her explanation within seven days,” the notice says.
