Urban forest and replica of Niagara Falls attract visitors as Karavali Utsava begins in Mangaluru

The urban forest created around a banyan tree and a replica of the Niagara Falls attracted many visitors on the inaugural day of the month long Karavali Utsava at the Karavali Utsava grounds on Saturday.

The forest is located on the right side of the Karavali Utsava grounds as one enters from the Lalbagh Road entrance gate. The Forest Department has laid steps to climb up the banyan tree and go on a foot overbridge. This leads to a cave where people can hear the roar of a tiger. As one comes out of the cave, there are small patches of a paddy field and a display of the lifestyle of forest dwellers.

Many people also visited the replica of Niagara Falls, which was illuminated with colourful lights.

Among the stalls that have come up at the ground include that of pottery items and dress materials. A woman with a hearing disability has also put up a stall selling dark chocolate items.

Inaugurating the Karavali Utsava, district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the Karavali region was known for its vibrant culture and sportsman spirit. Events like Karavali Utsava reignites and celebrates this culture. Such events help in strengthening bonds among communities and fosters communal harmony. The government was committed to restoring communal harmony and economic progress and development in the Karavali region.

To meet the increased expenditure for conduct of the Karavali Utsava, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sanctioned ₹2 crore. Mr. Rao said he was hopeful of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s visit to the Karavali Utsava on January 3 or 4.
