Hundreds of Vinayaka idols from across Dharmapuri district made their way to Hogenakkal amid tight security for immersion in the Cauvery on Wednesday (September 16, 2026).
A token system for immersion was drafted with the Vinayaka pandal teams and the tokens were issued by the Hogenakkal police. Each immersion party comprised of not more than four persons. The idols were dropped off near the Crocodile farm adjacent to the Cauvery, from where Fire and Police department supervised the immersion. Over 500 Vinayaka idols were immersed with the aid of cranes in the Cauvery.
Similarly, in Krishnagiri, over 500 pandals were set up in Hosur and over 1,780 pandals across the district. On Wednesday, hundreds of police were stationed to oversee the immersion of idols that commenced at the designated water bodies. The day also witnessed the continued use of painted Vinayaka idols, which are forbidden for immersion, being brought to the water bodies. In the KRP reservoir, giant idols painted in bright colours were immersed.
