The Visakhapatnam city police’ timely action helped protect a vunerable woman from a fraudster, preventing the loss of her property and potentially her life.
According to police, the woman from the city, whose husband is bedridden, and her daughter is facing personal difficulties constantly feared that she would be made a target and her vunerable situation would be taken advantage of due to the valuable property she owned.
A man named A. Balakrishna, in the guise of a security guard approached the woman, gained her trust and entered her home, assuring her help and support. However, his behaviour raised suspicion in the woman and she immediately contacted Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi over the phone and explained her situation.
After patiently listening to her complaint, Mr Bagchi ordered an immediate probe. During investigations, it was revealed that Balakrishna had a criminal record. In 2010, he was convicted in the murder of two children and had served a 10 year prison sentence. After his release, he had relocated and was allegedly attempting to target vulnerable individuals, the police said.
Following the Commissioner’s directions, the Maharani Peta Police bound Balakrishna, with a stern warning against repeating such acts. The woman thanked Mr. Bagchi for his swift response and said that the trust she had placed in the police had been justified and her family had been saved from a major danger.
Mr Bagchi urged the public to verify the background of strangers before trusting them, and to report suspicious persons immediately. He further asked the people to remain alert while dealing with property-related matters.
