Government Wenlock Hospital

The State government has given administrative approval for building the fourth and fifth floors in the medicine block building of Government Wenlock Hospital in the city. In all, two wards with a total of 74 beds are set to come up on those floors.
The two floors will be built at a cost of ₹10 crores to be given by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund, a government order issued on January 31 said.
The fourth floor will have a ward with 52 beds and the Central Sterile Supply Department, while the fifth floor will have a 22-bed ward.
Meanwhile, the government has upgraded the post of the District Surgeon at the Wenlock Hospital to Medical Superintendent.
The district in-charge minister and Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said in a statement that the government has chalked out a plan to strengthen facilities at the Wenlock Hospital by investing ₹70 crore. In that, the government has issued an order to release ₹35 crore in the first phase.
The government is in talks with the Kasturba Medical College regarding a ₹100 crore grant for Wenlock Hospital, the minister said.
