Hogenakkal drinking water distribution has been temporarily suspended over high turbidity levels in the water, making pumping and water purification difficult, according to the district administrations of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.
According to Krishnagiri Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, water supply under the Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Project has been temporary suspended due to high turbidity levels.
On Monday morning, the turbidity levels in the Cauvery was high due to the heavy rain in Karnataka. In view of the high turbidity levels, water pumping at the Central Pumping Station in Hogenakkal was stopped. According to the administration, the system was designed for pumping water not exceeding 100 NTU. However, the inflow reflected turbidity levels exceeding 100 NTU.
The water turbidity was 220 NTU on Monday morning, according to the district administration.
People have been advised to avail of available local water sources till the turbidity levels fall and pumping restarts.
