Will defeat BJP with the help of AI: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asserted that his party would make effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of Vision India: AI Summit in Hyderabad, he said that the party was organising such summits across major cities to create awareness among youth on the use of technology in governance and the future transformation driven by technology.

Responding to questions on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being undertaken by the Election Commission, he alleged that the BJP government was attempting to delete nearly three crore votes in Uttar Pradesh through the SIR process. Improper use of technology was resulting in the deletion of genuine voters’ names.

Accusing the BJP of misusing the SIR for electoral gains, he said the exercise was aimed solely at helping the BJP win elections in States like Uttar Pradesh. “This is not SIR, this is NRC in disguise,” he alleged, claiming that since the government could not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) directly, it was using SIR as an alternative.

Mr. Akhilesh Yadav underlined the need to effectively utilise AI technology in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure development, urbanisation, improved civic amenities in cities, traffic management and healthcare.

Expressing concern over the rise in cybercrime, he said that Uttar Pradesh records the highest number of cybercrimes in the country. He warned about the circulation of AI-generated fake videos on social media, stressing the urgent need to deploy AI itself to curb such threats. “Technology should benefit everyone,” he said.
