Kalakkad police are on the lookout for a woman who allegedly attacked her neighbour and robbed her of a 7.5-sovereign gold chain worth ₹8.60 lakh.
The police said an unidentified woman, wearing a raincoat and covering her face with a towel, entered the house of Dhanas, 23, of Neduvilai near Kalakkad around 11 a.m. on Monday when her husband Ponraj, a mechanic, had gone for work.
When the trespasser attempted to snatch the gold chain of Ms. Dhanas, she resisted the attempt. In a bid to forcibly snatch the chain, the trespasser attacked Ms. Dhanas with a sickle, in which the latter suffered cut injuries on the head.
After the stranger escaped with the gold chain, Ms. Dhanas alerted her husband. Based on her complaint, Kalakkad police registered a case.
During investigation, the police found that the attacker was the victim’s neighbour, Ponselvi, 36, who went underground.
The police are searching for Ponselvi.
