A woman and her daughter, employed as household help, have been arrested on charges of stealing gold and cash from the house of industrialist J. Sekar Reddy at Katpadi in Vellore on Tuesday.
Police said as K. Rani (52) and her daughter K. Mahalakshmi (37), were employed as household help at Mr Reddy’s house for the past few years. Initially they allegedly stole some gold ornaments. Police said later they passed on information about the stored valuables to a four member gang and with their help allegedly stole stolen around five kilograms of gold and Rs 45 lakh cash recently.
On a complaint from Mr Reddy, a case was registered by Viruthampattu police and special teams analysed CCTV footage in the house to track the accused women. A hunt is on for the gang members. The mother and daughter have been remanded in the Central Prison in Vellore.
