A 28-year-old woman died after being bitten by a snake at Venkatachalapuram under Kulathur police jurisdiction in Thoothukudi district on Monday.
Police identified the deceased as Lekkammal. She was asleep at her house when a snake that had slithered inside bit her on the neck. As she was in deep sleep, she mistook it for an insect and brushed it away before going back to sleep.
She reportedly developed health complications such as breathing difficulty in the morning. Her relatives took her to a private hospital nearby for first aid and later to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. However, doctors there declared her dead on arrival.
Kulathur police have registered a case.
