A woman police constable on duty at the Paramakudi Government Hospital died on the spot after she was pushed by youths while attempting to stop them from fighting.
Kannagi, 35, works at the Parthibanur police station, which falls under the Paramakudi police sub-division.
While assigned to duty at the Paramakudi District Headquarters Government Hospital around 8 PM, youths who had been injured in a fight outside came to the hospital for treatment.
At that time, Kannagi intervened to stop two opposing factions from clashing inside the hospital.
One of the youths, named Karuppuraja, pushed Kannagi aside. Losing her balance, she fell down and sustained severe head injuries.
She succumbed to injuries while being admitted for treatment.
Upon receiving the information, Ramanathapuram District Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh and Paramakudi DSP Sukumaran rushed to the hospital and conducted an inquiry.
