In a gruesome incident, a three-year-old girl, Vishnu Priya, was strangled to death by her mother’s boyfriend, Vigneshwaran, 27, in the early hours of Sunday.
The police said that Swathi, who had been living with her husband, Duraipandi, at Chinnakollapatti, had left him a few weeks ago and was living with Vigneshwaran at Pasumpon Nagar in Sivakasi. She had taken her daughter, Vishnu Priya, with her.
Vigneshwaran, who has the habit of consuming alcohol, had been quarrelling with Swathi.
During one such quarrel, Vigneshwaran tortured Vishnu Priya and also strangled her to death at around 1 a.m.
Sivakasi East police have arrested the accused.
