A.P. State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja released the teaser of the Women’s Andhra Premier League (WAPL) here on Tuesday.
Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) Director of Cricket Operations Kalyan Krishna and ACA CEO Jai Kishan met Ms. Sailaja and briefed her on the organisation of the WAPL, its special features and the opportunities it would provide to women cricketers.
Ms. Sailaja said the WAPL would serve as an excellent platform to identify cricketing talent among women at the grassroots level and provide them an opportunity to showcase their abilities at the State level.
She said women athletes could achieve greater success at the national and international levels with the right opportunities and encouragement. Prestigious tournaments such as the WAPL would go a long way in increasing women’s participation in sports, she added.
The WAPL will begin in Mangalagiri on September 19 and continue till September 27. The tournament will feature 13 matches.
