State-level stakeholder consultation workshops for the development of the National Plan of Action for Sustainable Marine Small-Scale Fisheries in India (NPOA-SSF Marine) will be held in Visakhapatnam on October 8 and Machilipatnam on October 12.

In a statement, District Fishermen’s Youth Welfare Association (DFYWA) Executive Secretary Arjilli Dasu said the workshops were being organised jointly by the DFYWA and FISHCON, with the support of the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO).

The consultations will focus on key issues concerning traditional fishers and small-scale marine fishing communities. The recommendations and actionable insights emerging from the discussions will be submitted through the BOBP-IGO to the Union and State governments to help formulate supportive policies and ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources and fishing livelihoods.
