The Yadavagiri Area Sabha, which met on January 25, discussed a range of civic issues affecting residents and explored solutions through coordination with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and active community participation.
During the meeting, garbage disposal was highlighted as a key concern, with members pointing out that both outsiders arriving in vehicles and domestic help were found dumping waste on footpaths. The Sabha decided to install posters on select streets stating, “Yadavagiri is a garbage-free zone — violators will be fined using CCTV.”
Residents, who were present, volunteered to monitor their lanes and caution house owners whose domestic help dispose of waste on the streets. While a few members said they purchased garbage bins to place in strategic locations to avoid littering, placing bins across all areas was, however, discouraged to prevent misuse.
The possibility of hiring pourakarmikas after duty hours to maintain cleanliness was also discussed. Initial talks with MCC officials have been held on the proposal, and MCC’s Assistant Executive Engineer Mruthyunjaya has agreed to look into the proposal submitted by the Yadavagiri Residents’ Association, according to a Sabha press release.
The Sabha decided to hold area-wise meetings by inviting residents living around parks to improve park maintenance, particularly cleanliness and greening. Volunteers also came forward to water newly-planted saplings in front of their homes. Tree lovers such as Sanjay Dattatri, B.K. Janardhan and Zerina, all Yadavagiri residents, were acknowledged for their ‘green’ efforts.
The Sabha further decided to organise a dinner meet in February, along with a musical event near Malagudi Circle to provide a platform for local musicians. Concerns were raised over the possible mushrooming of footpath vendors near Vikram Hospital.
Issues, including traffic violations, sewage overflow, potholes and alleged substandard civic works, were deferred to the next meeting. About 30 residents participated, and each member who participated agreed to bring at least two new participants to the next Sabha as the participants felt that larger community participation is crucial for addressing issues and finding solutions.
