A drunk man, frustrated after his complaint was ignored by the police, called the city police control room on Sunday evening and made a false claim that he had planted bombs at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s residence before disconnecting the call.
Police sources said the caller, who identified himself as Vinoth, abruptly disconnected the call after issuing the threat. On receipt of information, the Teynampet police personnel, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and sniffer dogs, conducted an intensive search at the Chief Minister’s residence on Chitharanjan Road, after which it was confirmed to be a hoax threat.
Based on the mobile number from which the call was received, the police traced and contacted the suspect. The person on the other end, later identified himself as Vinoth Kumar, claimed he was standing outside a TASMAC liquor shop on Camp Road in Selaiyur. Following this, the Teynampet police alerted Selaiyur police, who rushed to the spot and detained Vinoth.
During questioning, it was found that he was heavily drunk and had made the bomb threat. After an inquiry, he was arrested and sent for judicial remand on Monday.
