Youth held for smuggling ganja in Vaniyambadi

A 28-year-old youth from Kerala, Mohammed Afsal, was arrested by Vaniyambadi Town police at the bus terminus in the town in Tirupattur district on Thursday on charges of smuggling 14 kgs of ganja in tourist bags.

Police said during a routine patrol at public places, a special police team found Afsal loitering with two large tourist bags at the bus terminus. The police questioned him about the purpose of the visit to the town. As Afsal gave contradictory answers, police checked his two bags and found ganja in them. During interrogation, Afsal told police he brought the contraband from sellers in Andhra Pradesh. To evade surveillance by police, he boarded local buses to go to Kerala to deliver the consignment to retail sellers in the area.

Police seized the contraband. A case was registered. The arrested person was lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur town.
