The police on Sunday (February 1) arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly possessing 53.98 grams of suspected MDMA and seized his car during the early hours of the day.
The accused, Irshad, 34, of Ambarpallam, Mangalpady, was taken into custody after police intercepted a car allegedly used to transport the narcotic for sale. The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF).
Acting on the confidential information, the DANSAF team stopped the vehicle around 3.35 a.m. and conducted a search, during which the suspected MDMA was reportedly recovered. The police said Irshad had earlier been accused in drug-related cases. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is being led by Inspector T.K. Mukundan.
