Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has called upon students to play an active role in building a prosperous and self-reliant nation, describing education as a continuous journey and a nation’s most valuable asset.
He was speaking at the first convocation of Kishkinda University on Mount View campus on Ballari-Siruguppa Road on Wednesday.
Mr. Gehlot said that education should not be confined to the mere acquisition of degree certificates but it should serve as a means to acquiring knowledge and shaping a bright future.
Students must use their learning for the progress of the country, he added.
The Governor emphasised that along with intellectual growth, it is equally important for youth to imbibe human values. Indian tradition imparts cultural and moral values and it is the responsibility of students to carry this legacy forward, he said.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s exhortation, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”, he urged students to translate knowledge into action and use their skills to help India emerge as a developed nation.
Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar said that establishing educational institutions in regions such as Kalyana Karnataka is challenging and described it as a matter of pride that the university has completed two years successfully.
He said that while the State has 29 private universities, the focus must remain on maintaining academic quality with special emphasis on research and innovation rather than merely increasing enrolment.
During the event, a honorary doctorate was conferred on Siddalinga Swami of the Suvarnagiri Virakta Mutt, Ballari.
Legislators B.M. Nagaraj and Badarli Hampannagouda; Tungabhadra Education Health and Rural Development (TEHRD) Chairman S.J.V. Mahipal, Kishkinda University Chancellor Yashwant Bhoopal, Vice-Chancellor T.N. Nagabhushan, Pro-Chancellor Y.J. Prithviraj were present.
