There was a surge in footfall at the National Zoological Park on Sunday, with nearly 22,000 people visiting, helping the authority collect over ₹14 lakh in revenue. A further spike in visitor numbers is expected on New Year’s Eve and the day after.
According to zoo authorities, 21,954 visitors entered the zoo on Sunday, with a total of 5,309 tickets taken at the counter, including one school group. Among the visitors were 3,132 children aged 5 to 12, 2,508 children under 5, and 371 senior citizens.
“The footfall is expected to double on New Year’s Eve and on January 1,” a zoo official said.
Attributing the much-needed fillip to the recently introduced QR code-based ticketing system, the official said, “Tickets can be booked by scanning the QR code or through the zoo’s website,” he said.
