A street vendor smashed coconuts on the road and got into an argument with the police during an eviction drive at Gobichettipalayam here on Tuesday (June 24, 2025).

A daily vegetable market operates at Periyar Square on the Gobichettipalayam–Sathyamangalam Main Road, where over a hundred farmers arrive early in the morning to sell freshly harvested vegetables. Some vendors have also set up stalls along the roadside, which has reportedly caused traffic congestion during morning hours. The police received several complaints regarding the issue.

On Tuesday morning, the police began removing several roadside stalls that were obstructing vehicle movement. During the operation, a coconut vendor who had set up shop along the road was asked to vacate, and the police began clearing his goods. Angered by this, the vendor smashed coconuts on the road and got into a heated argument with the officers. This caused a brief period of tension in the area. However, the situation was brought under control after the vendor was pacified.
