MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday said the views expressed and the videos screened at the Muruga Bhakthargal Conference in Madurai against Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai were condemnable.

“The leaders of the AIADMK, who run a party in the name of Anna, remained mute spectators. This is unjustifiable,” Mr. Vaiko said in a statement.

Reiterating that the people of Tamil Nadu would not allow the mixing of politics with religion, he said the BJP could not make a mark in the 2021 Assembly polls even though the party had organised a Murugan conference (Vetri Vel Yatra) at that time.

“Murugan, the Tamil god, has festivals throughout the year. People celebrate festivals such as Thai Poosam, Visakam, Soorasamharam, and Skanda Shasti. The attempt made by the BJP to create an impression that Murugan worship is in danger will be rejected by the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
