The Public Works Department (PWD) undertook a one-day campaign on Tuesday to fill potholes on city roads and said that it had fixed 2,810 potholes by the evening.
“In a single day, the work of filling 3,400 potholes has started on 1,400 km of PWD roads. This is no ordinary repair, it is an honest attempt to make Delhi safe, beautiful and accessible,” said PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh in a post on X, after he inspected work at the Chittaranjan Park market.
The department has pressed at least 200 maintenance vans and over 1,000 personnel, including workers and officials, to fill the potholes. The PWD had identified and geo-tagged the potholes under its jurisdiction.
The initiative kicked off as monsoon is expected to descend on the city by Wednesday or Thursday. “More rains are expected during the week,” the India Meteorological Department said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa inspected Wazirpur industrial area to review desilting of storm water drains. “Delhi will not come to a standstill during monsoon,” he said.
“We have mobilised the entire government machinery to ensure every drain is cleaned,” added Mr. Sirsa.
