Telangana is likely to receive above-normal rainfall in July, according to the latest monthly forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast comes as a relief following the slow progress of monsoon in some parts of the State and marks a promising turn for the ongoing kharif crop season.

According to IMD’s monthly outlook, most parts of the country — including Telangana — are expected to witness normal to above-normal rainfall this month. However, IMD cautions that while above-normal rainfall can boost agricultural activity and replenish reservoirs, it also increases the risk of localised flooding and infrastructure disruptions, especially in low-lying and urban areas such as Hyderabad.

The IMD has advised authorities to strengthen their early warning systems and disaster response infrastructure, particularly in districts with a history of waterlogging and erosion during heavy spells.

In terms of temperature, the IMD noted that monthly average maximum and minimum temperatures in Telangana and other parts of the southern peninsula are likely to be slightly above normal, IMD said.
