Kannagi Nagar govt school students get new STEM lab

A. Bhuvaneshwari, a Class 10 student at Kannagi Nagar Government Higher Secondary School is most excited to see science experiments in a lab at her school. “I have always seen a lab room but never really got to see experiments. I don’t think I have even seen anyone enter the lab,” she said.

Thanks to Bounteous x Accolite and the non-governmental organisation, Ladies Circle India Trust, the school now boasts of a dedicated science lab among other infrastructure upgrades which includes a staircase, renovated principal’s room and refurbished girls’ toilet in the second phase of their CSR activities.

Irai Anbu, former Chief Secretary, inaugurated the STEM lab, along with Director of School Education S. Kannappan on Saturday. “A dedicated lab space wasn’t there. Further, access to the science equipment was missing. We had no storage space, which resulted in all the physics, biology and other equipment mixed. Today, not only do we have dedicated room but also a dedicated storage space,” said S. Geethalakshmi, science teacher at the school.

Speaking about the new additions, the principal of the school S. Anandeeswari, said, “In the last two years, the school’s infrastructure has improved tremendously from compound walls to toilets. These upgrades have helped build the school’s identity and give students a sense of belonging.”

For Hepsiba. S, a student of Class 7, the new toilets are the highlight. “The toilets last year were not good. We would not be able to use them. Now, the toilets are well maintained with water supply. I can actually use them,” she said.

In addition to infrastructure, the company has introduced holistic academic assessments for 410 students, helping teachers identify individual learning gaps and tailor academic support.

Vasan Sampath, EVP global sales force practice head, Bounteous x Accolite said that they want to see children taking advantage of the facilities and the initiatives being taken. “It would give us happiness and satisfaction to see the children do something worthwhile with their lives and become successful in their chosen areas,” he said.
