After heavy rains lashed across Kolkata and its surrounding areas in the intermittent nights of July 7 and 8, waterlogging was reported from many parts of the city bringing life to a halt and slowing down traffic movement.
Major areas like Behala, Jodhpur Park, Central Avenue, Golf Green, Shyambazar, Ultadanga, Dhakuria, pockets of EM Bypass, and parts of Howrah city were waterlogged cutting through some of the arterial roads of the city creating major distress for office goers and daily commuters. Civic workers and Kolkata Municipal Corporation staff have been working on clearing the roads and draining the water since Tuesday morning to help the city bounce back to normalcy.
An early morning alert from the India Meteorological Department of West Bengal said, “Temporarily water logging in low lying areas, and closure of underpass. Occasional reduction in visibility due to intense spells of rain. Disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads and poor visibility leading to increased travel time and incidents.”

Heavy rains were also reported from other parts of the State including districts like Purulia, West Midnapore, Bankura, Jhargram, East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas.
