Three persons were arrested by Pachal police near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday for killing a youth over previous enmity.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Vijayakumar (38), V. Gautam (30) and B. Arun (30). They are residents of Alliyandal village near Chengam. They are farmers in the village.
Initial inquiry revealed that the victim, K. Rahul (23), who lived with his parents in Bengaluru, had come to his grandfather R. Palaniswami’s (65) house in the village to take his younger brother, K. Kiran (18), back home. Kiran had left his house in Bengaluru after a fight with his mother a few days ago.
Hearing about it, Rahul came to take his brother along with him. He pacified Kiran at their grandfather’s house. Later, the brothers were waiting at the bus terminus in Chengam when three suspects, who were in an inebriated state, quarreled with the brothers over not meeting them when they came to the village.
As the argument intensified, Vijayakumar took a sharp weapon and stabbed Rahul on his back. His accomplice also joined in the attack. Immediately, other commuters and onlookers alerted Pachal police, who rushed to the spot.
Police admitted Rahul to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town where doctors declared him dead. Injured Kiran was shifted to the Government Hospital in Vellore for advanced treatment. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
