A woman and a six-month-old toddler were found dead in north Delhi’s Majnu ka Tila on Tuesday afternoon, said an officer.
The police have registered a case under Section 103 (1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Civil Lines police station and constituted a team to nab the accused, Nikhil, the deceased’s live-in partner, who is currently at large.
“A team rushed to the scene as soon as the toddler’s mother called the police,” said the officer. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim, who hailed from Uttarakhand, was staying with her friend, Laxmi, temporarily at the time of the incident. Before shifting to her friend’s residence, the victim lived with Nikhil.
“The deceased had several issues and frequent arguments with Nikhil, which led her to leave him and stay with the family of her friend,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said.
Nikhil reached Ms. Laxmi’s house around 12.30 p.m. on the pretext of collecting something from her husband, said the DCP. The couple, however were out to pick up their other daughter from school, leaving their six-month-old and the victim woman at home. “The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic experts were called to examine the scene,” a source said.
