India has been given a World Cup to host in 2027 and the World Junior Championship in 2028, by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), as announced by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Thursday.

India is set to host the Junior World Cup in September this year. It will also host the Asian rifle and pistol Championship in February next year.

The first ever Shooting League of India, featuring the best of shooters from around the world, competing in a novel format, is also scheduled to be hosted in Delhi in November this year.

“With the Los Angeles Olympics as our target, hosting at least one international event every year leading up to it is a tremendous opportunity for our shooters. It boosts the preparation of the senior athletes and gives juniors invaluable exposure to the atmosphere of elite competition at home. The launch of Shooting League adds an exciting dimension to our sport. We are committed to making India a global hub for shooting,” said the president of NRAI, Kalikesh Singh Deo.

“India is now a key stop on the global shooting calendar. I thank the Government, the Sports Ministry, the Sports Authority of India and all our stakeholders for their unwavering support,” said the secretary general of NRAI, Sultan Singh.
