Three persons including a havildar in the Indian Army have been arrested from Kalindi Kunj, South Delhi, for smuggling opium worth ₹1 crore, an officer said on Thursday. An army-issued licenced pistol was also seized from the vehicle the accused were travelling in, he said.

A case was registered under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Arms Act. According to the police, havildar, Godhu Ram, had taken leave to carry out smuggling activities.

“Upon receiving credible information we stopped the four wheeler where we found 18 packets of 18.108 kg of opium, tucked under the foot mat of the car,” said the police.

According to the police, all three accused are from Rajasthan’s Barmer district and were part of an inter-state drug cartel.
