Kerala Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu said here on Friday (July 11) that she has no doubts that the new standardisation formula for the preparation of the rank list of the State engineering and pharmacy entrance examination (KEAM) 2025 exam was scientific.
Upholding a Single Bench’s order that quashed the results of the examination, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court had on Thursday (July 10) dismissed an appeal filed by the State government challenging the Single Bench’s order to publish the rank list in accordance with the prospectus issued in February. The court had noted that the revised method in KEAM 2025 to calculate the ranks adversely affected students who studied the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) syllabus in their higher secondary classes.
Asked whether the expert committee appointed by the government had proposed the implementation of a revised formula for normalising the Plus Two marks, the Minister said that she had no liability to explain such matters to the mediapersons. “You are all big CIDs,” she said in response to the query.
On criticism that the government went ahead with the amendment of the examination prospectus in haste, she said that the decision was taken to ensure justice to the students as the earlier standardisation formula had affected the chances of many aspirants. Moreover, the prospectus had a clause that the government can make necessary amendments as required, she said
On whether the students in the State syllabus had gone down in the revised rank list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations on Thursday based on the High Court directive, Ms. Bindu said that the revised rank list was prepared as per the previous normalisation formula, which has been existing from 2012 onwards.
She said that the new formula was introduced as the students in the State syllabus could lose up to 35 marks even if they had scored full marks in the exam in view of the existing standardisation process.
