The AIADMK would stage an agitation at Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district on July 17, 2025 over the lack of amenities in the town panchayat and also over the alleged misadministration of the DMK government’s machinery, party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced on Sunday (July 13).

“It has become habitual for the DMK government to increase the taxes on the people, even though many of the essential facilities and amenities remain unfulfilled for them, since the DMK government assumed office,” Mr. Palaniswami charged in a statement. The people living in Uthiramerur too were specifically affected by the lack of amenities, he said.

Former Ministers and senior party functionaries S.S. Vaigaichelvan and V. Somasundaram would lead the agitation scheduled to commence near Uthiramerur bus terminus at 10 a.m. on Thursday, the party’s general secretary said.

Condoles death of ex-MLA Amarnath

In another statement, Mr. Palaniswami condoled the death of former AIADMK MLA O.S. Amarnath on Sunday. He recalled the former legislator’s contributions to the party and to the people of his constituency.
