The three-day ‘Sasya Santhe’ (plant fair) organised by Regional Horticulture Research and Extension Centre, University of Horticultural Sciences(UHS) on GKVK Campus came to an end on Sunday. The fair saw a participation of around 50,000 people.

The fourth edition of the event was inaugurated on July 11. Speaking at the valedictory ceremony on Sunday, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda urged people to become more conscious of environmental conservation.

“The environment always satisfies human needs and desires, but if we all understand that we should not exploit it beyond that for our greed, then that will be our small contribution to environmental conservation. UHS has organised this Sasya Santhe to create this awareness and plant concern in our minds about the environment. Coming here and checking out stalls and buying plants is not enough and we should all care about the environment. We see weather events like flash floods, drought, landslides and the problems caused by rain year on year. If these problems persist, then the lives of our children will be difficult. Hence, for their benefit, we should make conscious efforts to conserve the environment,” the Minister said.

There were more than 100 stalls that were set up in the fair selling various kinds of fruit, flower and ornamental saplings along with plantation, medicinal plants and vegetable seeds.

Vishnuvardhana, Vice-Chancellor of UHS Bagalakote delivered the presidential remarks and said, “In the next few days, we will launch a mega nursery on the UHS GKVK campus in Bengaluru where all kinds of quality seedlings, grafted plants, seeds, accessories, biofertlisers etc will be made available under a single roof. We will also provide training on urban horticulture, vertical gardening, terrace gardening, kitchen gardening, mushroom production etc.”
