Madras High Court Chief Justice K.R. Shriram on Friday paid rich encomiums to his colleagues in the Bench, the Bar members, and the court staff for having extended their cooperation and support during his stint here since September 27, 2024.
Replying to a farewell address by Advocate General (A-G) P.S. Raman following his transfer to the Rajasthan High Court, the Chief Justice said, it had been a privilege and honour to serve as the 53rd Chief Justice of the prestigious Madras High Court.
âThis institution is not merely a court but a living testament to history, a cradle of legal scholarship and a beacon of justice with roots stretching back to centuries. Its walls resonate with the wisdom of legendary jurists in tireless pursuit of justice,â he said.
Thanking his colleagues in the Bench, he said: âMy deepest appreciation goes to my sister and brother judges. Your unwavering support, collegial spirit, and shared dedication to uphold the majesty of law have been the bedrock of my tenure.â
He appreciated the Bar by stating: âYour eloquence, erudition and tireless advocacy are the lifeline of this institution. You have challenged us, assisted us, and upheld the highest traditions of the legal profession. The dynamic interaction between the Bench and the Bar in Madras is truly special.â
Not missing the contributions made by the court staff, he named Registrar General S. Alli and Private Secretaries V. Jaisankar, Srinivasan, and K. Sasi, as well his office attendants, drivers, and personal security officers for having been a pillar of support in performing his duties.
In his farewell address, the A-G told the gathering that Chief Justice Shriram was an authority in maritime law, and that during his tenure as a lawyer, he had saved the entire shipping industry single-handedly by his erudite arguments that led to the Supreme Court ruling on demurrage in Kochi Port Trust case.
