Excise officials have seized 3.5 kg of high-grade cannabis, known as “Gajapati Special,” which was brought from Odisha and stored in Kannankulangara, near Thrissur city, for sale. The ganja was recovered in a joint operation by the Thrissur Excise Intelligence and Excise Range teams, following local reports of suspicious nighttime activity by youth in the area.
The ganja was found in the possession of 33-year-old Mani Naik, a native of Odisha. He was arrested after days of surveillance. The successful operation was carried out with the help of local residents.
Assistant Excise Commissioner A.T. Jobi said that a special team will be deployed to monitor migrant workers. Further investigation is under way, focusing on tracing those who purchased ganja from the accused, using mobile data as a key lead.
