DMK on Tuesday, represented by Senior Counsel P. Wilson, made a mention before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court with regard to the case against the party’s ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu’ membership drive.
The Senior Counsel submitted that DMK party was not collecting Aadhaar details from the public in the ongoing membership drive and false allegations were being made against the party. He sought the matter to be listed under the caption ‘for being mentioned’
A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete told the counsel that the matter would be taken up for hearing after an application was filed in this regard. A DMK functionary R. Vinoth of Sivaganga district has filed an impleading petition.
The court on Monday by an interim order had restrained the ruling DMK from sending OTP verification messages to mobile phones of people during its ongoing ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu’ membership drive.
Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete had observed that the interim injunction was being granted to the limited extent of OTP messages till the issue of right to privacy and data protection were examined in detail, since the fundamental rights of the people are at stake.
The court had passed the interim order while hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by S. Rajkumar of Sivaganga district.
